The Divisional Sepulchre Guard is composed of Worthy Knights of the Thames Division especially chosen by the R.Ill. Int-Gen. The principal roles are those of escorting the R.Ill.Int-Gen when he attends his Conclaves throughout the year, and fulfilling ceremonial roles, when necessary.
An important duty they perform is during the ceremonies of conferring the Appendant Orders, an annual event held under the banner of selected Conclaves. Equally, the Divisional Sepulchre Guard act as escorts and providing a guard of honour at the annual meeting of the Division.
Membership of the Sepulchre Guard is open to any Worthy Knight who is a full subscribing and active member of one or more of the Conclaves in the Division. It has been the custom that once a knight attained the office of Viceroy (Eusebius) he must relinquish active membership of the Sepulchre Guard, however, the R.Ill. Int-Gen has agreed to forego this and will consider knights who are Past Sovereigns.
Members of the DSG are invested with the insignia of the Thames Division Sepulchre Guard suspended from a purple collarette.
It is worn at all Thames Division Red Cross meetings, whether on official duty or not, and is to be worn when attending festive boards. When on official duty, a sword is worn. It is preferable for a Guard to possess his own sword, but one can be loaned on each occasion, as required.
A full complement of the DSG consists of up to 12 knights who are under the direction of a Captain of the DSG and his deputy. When on official duty the DSG will work in conjunction with the Divisional Marshal, who is responsible for all matters of ceremonial procedures. Sword drill will be given whenever the DSG meet.
Membership of the Divisional Sepulchre Guard shows commitment to the Order, the Division, and particularly to their Conclave, which they represent. As a member of the DSG you will, when on escorting duties, be in the company of the R.Ill. Intendant-General and his senior officers when he makes official visits to Conclaves.
On the occasion of the annual Divisional meeting each member of the DSG is presented to the R.Ill.Int-Gen and is invested with the Sepulchre Guard collarette, or re-appointed for the subsequent twelve months.
Membership of the Divisional Sepulchre Guard is considered to be an honour, not available to everyone. Individuals will be selected on their merit and commitment to the Order.
An application form is available on the website, which when completed, is to be returned to the Divisional Marshal for onward submission to the R.Ill.Int-Gen.
